Google Wave
Google Wave is "a personal communication and collaboration tool" announced by Google at the Google I/O conference on May 27,2009
Google Wave is a web-based service, computing platform, and communications protocol designed to merge e-mail, instant messaging, wikis, and social networking. It has a strong collaborative and real-time focus supported by extensions that can provide, for example, robust spelling/grammar checking, automated translation between 40 languages, and numerous other extensions, and a document where people can discuss and work together using richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.
The name was inspired by the Firefly television series in which a Wave is an electronic communication (often consisting of a video call or video message).
Google Wave is designed as the next generation of Internet communication. It is written in Java using OpenJDK.
Initially released only to developers, a "preview release" of Google Wave was extended to nearly 1 million users beginning September 30, 2009, with the initial 100,000 users each allowed to invite up to twenty additional users.
Features
Organizing Events
Keep a single copy of ideas, suggested itinerary, menu and RSVPs, rather than using many different tools.Use gadgets to add weather, maps and more to the event.
Group Projects
Collaboratively work in real time to draft content,
discuss and solicit feedback all in one place
rather than sending email attachments and creating
multiple copies that get out of sync.
Photo Sharing
Drag and drop photos from your desktop into a wave.
Share with others. Use the slideshow viewer.
Everyone on the wave can add their photos, too.
It is easy to make a group photo album in Google Wave.
Meeting Notes
Prepare a meeting agenda together,
share the burden of taking notes and record decisions
so you all leave on the same page.
Team members can follow the minutes in real time,
or review the history using Playback.
Share Ideas
Bring lots of people into a wave to brainstorm - live concurrent editing makes the quantity of ideas grow quickly! It is easy to add rich content like videos, images, URLs or even links to other waves. Discuss and then work together to distill down to the good ideas.
And even more...

World Champion Jenson Button (GBR)
Brawn GP team principal Ross Brawn has paid tribute to driver Jenson Button after the Englishman secured his first drivers’ title with a fifth-place finish in Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix. The race also saw Brawn wrap up the constructors’ championship at their first attempt.
Button, who won six of the season’s opening seven races, had come in for criticism of late, having only once finished higher than fifth in the subsequent rounds. But all that was swept aside at Interlagos after a spirited drive from 14th on the grid saw him capture the points he needed to clinch the crown.
“What a day! Jenson is a fantastic racer and he had a great race, particularly after such a difficult qualifying,” said Brawn. “He knew what he had to do and did just that and is a very deserving world champion. I am so incredibly proud of the team and our drivers and it's so very special to have won the constructors' and the drivers' championships in our first year as Brawn GP.”
Button’s team mate Rubens Barrichello started his home race from pole position and had looked set to take the title race down to the wire at the last round in Abu Dhabi. However, he was leapfrogged by rivals during the first pit stops and then suffered a late puncture, dropping him to eighth place at the flag.

Bhuvan: India's answer to Google Earth
After Chandrayaan-1 mission, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is all set to add another feather to its cap.
On the lines of Google Earth, ISRO will soon launch an IRS (Indian Remote Sensing) image portal called “Bhuvan”, which will provide online maps based on Geographical Information System (GIS).
Bhuvan, meaning earth, is the addition to the numerous scientific innovations by SAC and is a satellite mapping tool, just like Google Earth or Wikimapia, but allows you to zoom far closer than the aerial view from a chopper. If Google Earth shows details upto 200 metres distance and Wikimapia upto 50 metres, Bhuvan will show images upto 10 metres, which means you can easily see details upto a three floor high building and also add information.
Unlike the other two webmaps, Bhuvan will focus only on the Indian sub-continent.
The information on Bhuvan will be layer wise and the options of viewing filtered information will be available. Inputs from a lot of local players, like farmers, fishermen and likes who know the local area in and out, will also being integrated in Bhuvan.
Advantages of Bhuvan over Google Earth
Bhuvan (Google)
Zoom levels up to 10 mt (Zoom levels up to 200 mt)
Multi-layer information (Single layer information)
Images upgraded every year (Images upgraded every 4 years)
Options of viewing on different dates (No alternate viewing options)
Uses Indian satellites (Uses international satellites)

Google Chrome OS & What It Means For Future of Computing
First the Features:
- Chrome OS will run on both ARM and x86-based chips and is designed for netbooks.
- The architecture is Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel.
- Apps developed for Chrome OS will run on Google Chrome OS, and on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux.
- Designed to boot and get folks on the web in seconds.
- Designed so viruses and malware aren’t an issue.
- It’s not going to be out until the second half of 2010 on consumer netbooks.
What It Means:
- Google sees a browser-like experience being key to netbooks and believes that rather than just surf the web, consumers want to play and use the apps.
- Microsoft, which has not ported its Windows 7 to ARM-based chips that will be designed into the future version of netbooks, and which has priced Windows 7 for Intel-based netbooks fairly high, will be scrambling if Chrome OS succeeds.
- The fact that apps designed for Chrome OS will work anywhere should attract developers to the platform, and as we know, developers are the new kingmakers in today’s app-focused world.
- While the world was waiting for Google’s mobile Android OS on netbooks, Google has suddenly pulled Chrome OS out of its hat. James over at jkOnTheRun calls it a case of classic misdirection. Google explains that Chrome OS is for the web, while Android is for devices — from phones to set-top boxes. We wonder why Chrome OS wouldn’t be more appropriate for the so-called fourth-screen devices.
- Building a special-purpose, lightweight browser specifically for the netbook might address some of the difficulties that developers were having porting Android to netbooks, such as issues porting to a keyboard-based user interface rather than touchscreens and trackballs.
- This all follows in line with Google’s love of everything in the browser, such as its embrace of HTML5 that makes it easy to bring a desktop experience (especially with video) seamlessly to the browser.
- Chipmakers betting on ARM-based netbooks such as Qualcomm and Texas Instruments will win if the user experience is robust enough to wean people from their familiarity with Windows.
Why Computing Needs to Change
The promise of broadband everywhere is changing the way we can communicate online. Google’s Chrome OS may or may not make it, but the attempt shows how far the industry has come from a bulky PC chained to a desk by its power cord and Ethernet cable. The computer is evolving from those dinosaurs to a smaller, mobile model that is always connected to the web. The iPhone brought us apps that are lightweight so users don’t get bogged down by smaller processors and slower wireless web connections on mobile devices. Google’s Chrome OS attempts to keep that speed, while preserving a platform for Google to make money through advertising. But it’s far from a done deal.
Why We’re Not Going to Get Too Excited Yet
- It’s not coming out for a year. A lot can happen in a year.
- Launching a browser is one thing (and so far, Chrome has received mixed reviews) and building an OS is another, and right now this is an announcement, not a product.
- Does the world need a netbook-focused OS?
- Can Google convince carriers, which aren’t big fans of the search giant, that selling netbooks with Chrome OS is the way to go? Most analysts expect carriers to become a huge distribution channel for netbooks.
If Google wants to be the advertising OS, its products need to deliver the optimal web experience on every device. Judging from some of the Google blog post notes, the Chrome OS will have instant-on and act as an interface between a netbook and the web, rather than feel like a traditional OS. In fact, it almost sounds like a…browser. Which may be the point, since Om argues that the browser is where the action will be in the coming years, and as we consume more of our web experience through apps, a full-fledged browser seems a little clunky.
Chrome OS isn’t expected to land on consumer devices until the second half of 2010, but by designing it for the new model of computing, Google has the potential to affect the netbook market like the iPhone did in the cell phone world. And since Microsoft decided not to port its Windows 7 software to ARM chips, which was going to be a thorn in the side of Qualcomm and Texas Instruments as they tried to design netbooks that could attract consumers already familiar with Windows, Google’s Chrome OS has an opening. TI has already lauded Google’s efforts. So while we’re not getting too excited, we’re definitely going to watch this develop. In the meantime, check out what everyone else is saying around the web in our handy compilation above.
Update: Google has added some information noting that the Chrome OS will be free, and listing a few of their partners in this endeavor, including several notebook makers and chip companies making ARM-based application processors for netbooks and smartphones.

Chilli Bomb-Latest Indian army weapon in war on terror
Indian army chiefs are set to deploy a "curry bomb" to win the war on terror.
India's weapons development experts have developed an eye-watering spice bomb, packed with a potent mix of red chilli and pepper which will be used to smoke out militants during counter-insurgency operations.
As Britain's legion of Friday night Vindaloo casualties will testify, too much chilli can be debilitating.
But scientists from India's Defence Research and Development Organisation have discovered that the spices which make your curry so hot can also bring an enemy to his knees in seconds.
Scroll down for more ...
Eye-watering: The spice bomb will be packed with a potent mix of red chilli and pepper
They have created an 81-mm grenade packed with red hot chilli, pepper and phosphorus to use in Kashmir where Islamic separatists linked with al Qaeda are fighting a long-running insurgency war.
Their enemy is often unseen, and can easily disappear in civilian crowds. India's curry bomb however will help its soldiers to immobilise enemy fighters, and allow them to be captured, without long-term injury.
The mix of spices and phosphorous chokes the enemy's respiratory tract, leaving targets barely able to breathe for a time. Their eyes, throat and skin burn and sting.
Army scientists have also discovered the "curry bomb" can be used to block enemy attacks by creating a smoke screen and preventing snipers from using night-vision devices and thermal imagers.
From being fired by a grenade launcher, it creates an effective smoke screen ninety metres away within five seconds.
The curry bomb will be used both as a hand grenade by police and armed forces, and as a tank-mounted device.
Experts from India's Defence Research and Development Organisation have already tested their new "grenade masala" in a series of "spice raids" close to the Line of Control which separates Indian and Pakistani forces in the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region.
"The field trials have been completed with success in several areas along the Line of Control. The grenades would be successful in forcing out militants from their hideouts."
India's weapons development establishment has developed a good reputation for innovation. They have developed a nuclear missile capability, and have become leaders in rocket and satellite launch technology.
Britain's Ministry of Defence has recently sealed a series of deals with their Indian counterparts under which British fighter jets will be manufactured in India.
It may be some time before western governments develop an appetite for the curry bomb.
